Manual page for SDFORM(8)

sdform - Format SCSI Disk

SYNOPSIS

sdform raw_device [ -n ]

DESCRIPTION

sdform executes a Format Unit Command on raw_device. raw_device must be a SCSI disk. This is normally invoked by the disk(8) program when initializing a new floppy disk; however, it may be used to re-initialize a damaged floppy or hard disk. sdform should be used with extreme caution; all data on the disk being formatted is lost.

OPTIONS

-n
Normally, sdform prompts the user with "Do you wish to proceed?". Specifying the -n (no prompt) option avoids this prompt.

SEE ALSO

sd(4), disk(8)

BUGS

No provision is made for adding entries to the device's bad block list.
